Volunteerism is Rewarding Work

At work, Rhonda is front and center, helping customers book hotel rooms. Afterward, she is busy backstage, bringing the next production to the footlights at Davis Musical Theatre Company.

An agent in the travel industry since June 2015, Rhonda volunteers 70 hours a month year-round at California’s longest-running, amateur musical theater company.

Family Affair

There, with her husband, Tim, she takes on a variety of roles, producing several musicals a year, many of which feature her daughter, Rachael, as a key performer.

A musical prodigy from an early age, Rachael has sung with orchestras, symphonies and at Disney Land, with plans to be a main-stage performer on the Disney Cruise Line.

“My daughter is the reason we’re involved in the theater,” Rhonda said, adding it wouldn’t be possible to put in so many hours without her flexible schedule at Working Solutions.

Nonstop Effort

In the two weeks leading up to each opening night, she and her husband will put in 60 hours each getting the crew and production ready. While Tim helps build the sets, Rhonda does  everything from costume fitting to hair and makeup to publicity.

“It’s pretty much nonstop all year. As soon as one show goes into full production, another is beginning auditions.”

Once a show opens, Rhonda busies herself with house-managing, ushering and costume repairs.

“It’s rewarding work and a good way to give back to the community. Even when my daughter goes off to sing and perform with Disney, we’ll still be there at the theater helping out.”
