As chief financial officer, Tom Kim is a multi-discipline business leader, with 15+ years of diverse experience. He combines military operations with industry consulting and corporate finance. Tom knows how to define business value—in terms that clients appreciate.
With an economics degree from West Point, Tom deployed to Army posts in the U.S. and overseas, performing financial services at Fort Hood and the buildout of base operations in Seoul, Korea. After service, he earned an MBA at Harvard. Investment banking—with its intense, deadline-driven work—followed at Citicorp.
Broadening his expertise, Tom consulted at the Boston Consulting Group, serving several FORTUNE 500 companies across technology, IT, telecommunications and consumer industries. Before joining Working Solutions in 2013, he was a principal at MHT Partners, a technology and growth-focused investment bank.
The U.S. Military Academy at West Point puts your best to the test. Tom came away knowing: “Anything is possible, if you put your mind to it.”
As a consultant, Tom worked with bankers, manufacturers—and even designers of women’s apparel. The more cross-industry consulting he did, the greater his insight. No matter how diverse the business, they shared common ground when defining value. “My job was helping them uncover it.”
Call it a career crossroads. Tom had to decide: attend the University of California at Berkeley or West Point. He chose the latter. The military gave him a balanced view of the world. “Today, it helps me be more even-keeled in understanding various viewpoints and opinions.”
