A Salute to Veterans and Their Families

11/12/2013

Yesterday was Veterans Day, the day we take time to acknowledge the sacrifices given by veterans and their families. It’s important to recognize those who make it their mission to protect our country and way of life. For many it means a day off work, perhaps to attend a parade or celebration for the veterans, or even celebrate someone you know personally. For others it may be just another day, with a pause to remember the sacrifices made by the men and women who serve our country. Whatever the case, it is important to understand this day and why it is important.

History of Veterans Day

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, November 11, 1918 was the day a temporary cessation, or armistice, went into effect between the Allied nations and Germany. It was reported that this armistice happened at the 11th hour in the 11th month, and is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars,” or World War I.

Through a series of congressional acts and presidential proclamations, November 11th officially became recognized as Veterans Day, to be celebrated throughout the country. There was a brief time in the 1970’s where Veterans Day was moved to a Monday. However, in 1975 President Ford signed a public law returning it to its rightful place – November 11th.

It is important to understand the historical significance of this day and that it is different from Memorial Day. Veterans Day is set aside to thank and honor all those who served honorably in the military, either in wartime or peacetime.

Proud to Employ Veterans and their Families

Working Solutions supports hiring veterans and their spouses. We recognize the sacrifices these people make to secure our freedom. It takes commitment, focus and strong beliefs to be a veteran, as well as a military spouse.

The life of a military spouse is one of constant change, moving from base to base while adapting to new environments, getting children in new schools, and even learning new languages and customs. The remote agent model gives a constant to the ever-changing life style of a military spouse.

We are proud to provide job opportunities to both veterans and spouses of active duty men and women.
